REGISTERED DIETITIAN

Mat is a Saskatoon native who grew up playing soccer, hockey, badminton, volleyball, and track before ultimately finding his passion in football. That path led to a successful career as an offensive lineman with both the Saskatoon Hilltops and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Through years of training, competition, and rehabilitation, Mat developed a deep appreciation for the science of performance nutrition. His firsthand experience navigating demanding seasons, returning from major injury, and maximizing offseason development shaped his belief that nutrition is not optional at the highest levelโ€”it is foundational. He also speaks openly about

learning from his own experience. Early in his career, he faced the consequences of inconsistent fueling, inadequate hydration, and overlooking the value of nutrient-dense whole foods. Those challenges reinforced a critical lesson: performance is directly influenced by daily habits and food choices. These experiences now inform his practice, allowing him to guide athletes not only with scientific knowledge but with practical insight grounded in lived experience.

Mat is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, holding degrees in Physiology & Pharmacology and Nutrition. He further refined his expertise through time spent at the Canadian Sport Institute Calgary, where he learned directly from Performance Dietitians and high-performance practitioners while gaining exposure to the applied nutrition strategies used with Winter Olympians. His background spans both clinical and performance nutrition, giving him a comprehensive understanding of how health and high performance intersect.

As a Registered Dietitian at Ignite Health, Mat works with athletes and active individuals across all stages of developmentโ€”from youth competitors to university athletes, teams, and adults pursuing health and performance goals. He supports fueling strategies, recovery systems, hydration planning, and evidence-based supplementation within the context of each person's lifestyle, training demands, and health status. His approach integrates physiology, sport demands, and real-world practicality to create individualized performance plans that are both effective and sustainable. He emphasizes long-term athletic development, injury risk reduction, and building habits that support performance, health, and resilience well beyond sport.

Mat currently serves as the team dietitian and offensive line coach for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies football program, where he integrates performance nutrition directly into team culture and daily training operations.

Outside of his professional work, Mat enjoys spending time with friends and family, travelling when possible, playing pickleball, listening to country music, and exploring new restaurants.
